MR ANGUS BRANCH
Death removed one of the best known citizens of Gloucester County when ANGUS J.S. BRANCH, passed away Tuesday at his home in Burnsville, at the age of 65 years.
The late Mr. Branch was born at Big River, Gloucester County, and was a prominent farmer and former Member of the Gloucester County council and a widely known experienced lumberman and woodsman. For many years he was a chief forest ranger for the County. He was highly regarded as a fine citizen.
Left to mourn besides widow, are four sons, the Rev. James Branch, of Gravelbourg, Sask.; Richard, Joseph, and Peter of Burnsville; and nine daughters, Rev. Sisters Branch, Cormier and Saint Alexander of Hotel Dieu Hospital, Tracadie; Mrs. Kathleen O'Leary, R.N. New York; Mrs. Albert LeClair, Campbellton: Mrs. William Pinet, Mrs. Leo Landry and Mrs. Paul E. Lizotte, Burnsville. Miss Winifred Branch, teacher at Bathurst Mines.
Rev. Father Branch had just returned to Saskatchewan, after a visit to his home, but is returning by plane for the funeral. Deceased is also survived by three brothers, Frank R. and Mont of Big River and Hugh of Clifton. Three sisters: Mrs. Stephen Branch, Bathurst Basin; Mrs. Hannah Branch, Big River and Mrs. Harry Jagoe of Clifton.
The late Mr. Branch had been a patient at Tracadie Hospital for some but he died at home.
The deceased was a Knight of Columbus and Brother Knights from Bathurst were pallbearers. They were; the Grand Knight of Bathurst Council, Dr. J.L. Veniot, Jack Kennay, Angus Vienneau, Albany Robichaud, J.E. Connolly, all from Bathurst and N.D. Theriault of Trudel.
In the spacious church of the Parish of Paquetville, at 9:30 Saturday morning the Solemn High Funeral Mass of Mr. Angus J.S. Branch was celebrated by his son, the Rev. James Branch of Gravelbourg of Saskatchewan and assisted as deacon by Rev. T. Hachey, pastor of Neguac. The funeral procession, under the direction of James Hogan of Bathurst, left the home of the late Mr. Branch at 9 o?clock, Rev S. Robichaud presided at the first ceremonies, attended bye Rev. J. Branch,. The cortage in a long line of cars, a mile in length wound its way to the Parish Church.
Early in the morning cars of relatives and friends began to arrive in Burnsville to pay a parting homage to one of tits most widely known citizens of the county. From Bathurst some twenty cars came, a good number of which were filled with relatives, the Branch's being one of Gloucester Counties largest English Families.
A great number of Mass Cards, Spiritual Bouquets, Floral Bouquets, Telegrams and cards of sympathy showed the high esteem in which Mr. Branch was regarded.
